The DeSoto Parish School Board met for a professional development sessionon Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the DeSoto Parish School Board Instructional Materials  Center, 523 Oxford Road, Mansfield, Louisiana, at 12:00 p.m. with the following members present:

            Dudley M. Glenn, Jeffrey Dillard, Donald B. Dufour, Alice Thomas, Dale Morvan, Bobby Boyd, Rosie Mayweather and Clay J. Corley, Superintendent.  Dr. Neil Henderson attended virtually.

            Absent: Coday Johnston, Mark Ross, Thomas Craig, Jr.

             Mr. Boyd opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.  Then he turned it over to Superintendent Corley, who spoke about the growing role technology has played in the school system during the past year. 

Mr. Corley introduced Lisa Register, Technology Supervisor, and Rocky Perritt, Network Manager.  They each gave an informative presentation on the growth of technology in DeSoto Parish Schools and the vital role it plays in classroom and virtual instruction.

Mr. Corley introduced Sherri Laffitte, Media Coordinator, who took Board Members on a virtual tour of the district’s new website, app, and social media outlets.  She explained how the district uses social media to share school news, information and events. 

Mr. Corley then turned the meeting over to Nicole Bolen, TAP Executive Master Teacher and Alissa Kilpatrick, Student Learning Coordinator.  They shared information on how the district’s classrooms are using technology to reach students, showing all aspects from a student’s view, and explained how students can work from home or at school.  They each answered questions from Board Members and gave examples of

In closing, Mr. Corley and Board Members thanked the presenters for providing a great learning opportunity and for updating them on technology use in DeSoto Parish schools.

            A motion for adjournment was made by Mr. Dillard and seconded by Mr. Dufour.  The professional development session adjourned at3:08 p.m.
