The DeSoto Parish School Board met in regular session at the DeSoto Parish School Board Instructional Materials Center, 523 Oxford Road, Mansfield, Louisiana, on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. with the following members present:

 

Dudley M. Glenn, Dr. Neil Henderson, Jeffrey Dillard, Alice Thomas, Coday Johnston, Dale Morvan, Mark Ross, Thomas Craig, Bobby Boyd, Rosie Mayweather, and Clay Corley, Superintendent.

 

            Absent: Donald Dufour

 

            Item 1:  Call to order

 

            President Morvan called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.  Mr. Corley and Board Members asked to remember those suffering health issues.  Mr. Ross gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

 

            Item 2:  Revisions to the agenda.

 

            There were no revisions to the agenda.

 

            Item 3: Approval of minutes of the regular Board meeting of July 1, 2021.

 

Motion was made by Mr. Boyd, seconded by Ms. Thomas, to approve the minutes of the July 1, 2021, Board meeting as presented.  The vote was taken and the President stated the motion carried with the following votes – Yes = 10, No = 0, Absent = 1, and Abstentions = 0.

 

            Item 4:  Approval of the revised 2021-22 Personnel Evaluation Plan

 

            Mrs. Janice Lingle, HR Director, presented a summary of the revisions to the Personnel Evaluation Plan. 

 

Motion was made by Mr. Craig, seconded by Mr. Glenn, to approve the Personnel Evaluation Plan as presented.  The vote was taken and the President stated the motion carried with the following votes – Yes = 10, No = 0, Absent = 1, and Abstentions = 0.

 

Item 5:   Consider authorizing Superintendent to purchase a piece of property located at 197 Cook Street at Sheriff’s sale.

 

Mr. Corley explained that a piece of property at 197 Cook Street, Mansfield, Louisiana, is going to be available at an upcoming Sheriff’s sale.  This property joins the property where the new central office facility is being built.  On a motion by Mr. Craig, seconded by Mr. Glenn, the Board authorized Superintendent Corley to purchase the property located at 197 Cook Street at Sheriff’s sale.  .  The vote was taken and the President stated the motion carried with the following votes – Yes = 10, No = 0, Absent = 1, and Abstentions = 0.

 

            Item 6:  Policies for review

 

            Policies were presented for review and will be on the September agenda for approval as follows:

 

                                    JCD – Student Conduct

                                    JCDAB – Student Alcohol and Drug Use

                                    JCDAC – Dangerous Weapons

                                    JD – Discipline

                                    JDD – Suspension

                                    JDE – Expulsion

 

Item 7:  Comments

 

Superintendent Corley made the Board Members and public aware:

 

·         Board Members visited various schools on opening day.

·         We had a great start to the 2021-22 school year.

·         School staff has worked tremendously hard to get ready to open school, they are appreciated.

 

Item 8: Adjournment 

 

On a motion by Mrs. Mayweather, seconded by Mr. Craig the Board voted to adjourn at 6:10 p.m.
