Students have the right to express their opinions verbally, provided such expressions shall not be indecent, vulgar, or lewd and shall not be slanderous of another person.

WRITTEN PUBLICATIONS

Student publications and written materials of students are important elements of the instructional program and contribute directly to the accomplishment of the school's goals.  The DeSoto Parish School Board supports the development of student-produced school newspapers, yearbooks, and other publications.

Prior to distribution of any written materials, the student and/or student group shall receive written approval from the principal or his/her designee.  The written approval shall include the number of times a day and the number of days the material can be distributed in the school.  At least forty-eight (48) hours prior to the intended time for distribution, materials shall be submitted for review to determine compliance with stated regulations.  Distribution of materials in areas of the campus which would disrupt order or impede the free flow of student movement shall be prohibited.  Students receiving permission to distribute materials shall also be responsible for the cleanup of the materials distributed in a manner which is not disorderly or coercive, and all materials must bear a permanent official disclaimer of school sponsorship.
