PUBLIC CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS

It shall be the policy of the DeSoto Parish School Board that written allegations concerning local school policy, or concerns about school matters be submitted to the principal of the school.  If the matter cannot be settled at this level the matter should then be presented to the Superintendent and/or his/her designee in writing with all allegations documented and signed.

It shall further be the responsibility of the principal of the school and Superintendent and/or his/her designee to document any and all meetings of this nature.

These documents shall be made available to the School Board members in the event these matters reach the School Board.

PUBLIC COMPLAINTS

It is recognized that from time to time members of the public may have legitimate complaints, or justifiable grievances for which they seek redress.  As a general rule, all complaints should be written and signed by the complainant.  Solutions for complaints or grievances should be sought first at the lowest possible decision making level in the organization.  Thus, a citizen who has a complaint about or with a teacher should first seek to resolve the dispute with the applicable teacher.  If this does not solve the problem the complainant then should seek redress from the principal, Superintendent, and the School Board, in that order.

Complainants who seek first action from the School Board or Superintendent shall be directed to seek a solution to their problem from the applicable teacher or principal before the Superintendent or School Board shall enter the case.

Matters referred to the School Board shall be submitted through the Superintendent and must be in writing and should be specific in terms of the action desired.  The School Board shall not consider or act on complaints that have not been explored at the appropriate administrative level.
